SITE LOCATION

North coast lakes in Egypt are targeted as a possible locations of the proposed module.

Egyptian Mediterranean coast hosts five shallow lagoons which play a vital role in the national economy.

These lakes are, from west to east, Maryut , Idku , Burullus, Manzala , and Bardawil as seen in Figure.

Lake Bardawil

• TheThe second largest lake in Egypt ..(cover aprrox 700 km 2

• The Lake is connected to the Mediterranean through two artificially constructed inlets and third is natural inlet Zaranik inlet)

• In 1985 UNESCO designated a 250 km 2 zone in the far eastern part of the lake as a Ramsar site Known as the Zaranik Protectorate

• The selected location about 2 3 m depth, near to shore, far from Ramsar site, has good water circulation, medium water surface velocity and far from sandy deposits area

• Tides in this region h as an amplitude of 11 2 cm

• The dominant regional wind direction is NW and is characterized by magnitudes of 5 m/s (maximum 10 m/s)
